Osteoarthritis – who suffers from it and why?
Osteoarthritis is a degenerative joint disease characterized by the breakdown of the joint‘s cartilage.
The processes of ageing and genetic factors and/or chronic overstrain, varus or valgus deformities contribute to the progressive degradation and, ultimately, loss of cartilage.
Are you affected?
Typical symptoms of incipient osteoarthritis are, for example, an unpleasant pulling sensation in the joint and stiffness when you get up in the morning. Another common symptom is discomfort when you start walking, which soon fades once you have been moving for a while. The onset of osteoarthritis of the knee is often associated with pain when climbing upstairs. If inflammation also occurs, we talk about an “activated osteoarthritis”.
A new methode of treatment
- Blood is taken from a vein in your arm
- A natural, arthritis-inhibiting solution is obtained from the blood by separation
- The natural active ingredients are injected into the affected joint
Injecting autologous conditioned plasma (ACP) is a new method of treatment for joint problems caused by degeneration. It has long been known that the growth factors in human blood can positively influence various healing processes. ACP therapy is based on this knowledge. Concentrated growth factors in the blood can stimulate healing and regeneration processes in your damaged joint cartilage. Initial clinical results show significant improvements in terms of pain relief and mobility.
When can ACP therapy help?
ACP therapy is recommended for painful mild to moderate osteoarthritis. Inflammation of tendons can also be considerably alleviated.
What does ACP therapy involve?
A small amount of blood is taken from a vein in your arm in the same way as for a blood test. A special technique is then used to separate out the part of the blood containing autologous (i.e., occurring naturally in the body) regenerative components which inhibit osteoarthritis. The natural solution obtained in this way is then injected into the affected joint using a special syringe (Arthrex Double Syringe). This newly developed double-chamber syringe ensures sterile extraction and injection of the growth factors, thus offering the greatest possible level of safety.
Advantages of ACP therapy
- Use of the body’s natural powers of regeneration
- Recommended for mild to moderate osteoarthritis and tendon pain
- Concentration of growth factors in the blood
- No side-effects because the body’s own healing mechanism is utilised
- A safe procedure assured by the double syringe
